The Irish Music Makers. Meet on the
second & fourth Wednesday of every month at 8.30pm. Playing
and singing purely for fun. Everyone welcome.

We have completed the redecoration of the upstairs Studio, and
extended the hard floor for the benefit of our Irish set dancing
group, which has doubled its numbers during the past few months,
and is turning into a real success story.
The room has a fine acoustic and will be an excellent venue for
folk, jazz, blues and choral events. In fact, at the time of
writing (October 2nd) we expect soon to be welcoming a local
eight piece band – all former members of the popular Ray
Martyn Big Band – who will be rehearsing there every
Tuesday evening. Although, for them, it will be a practise night,
they’ll be happy for big band enthusiasts to sit alongside
and enjoy a good listen.
Another place worth taking a look at is our new `Session Room'.
Until recently this was the pool room, adjoining the ground floor
lounge. The pool table and the carpet have both been disposed
off, the floorboards have been varnished and some new tables
purchased, and all-in-all, it looks now like a good old fashioned
tap room. It will hold up to 34 people but looks comfortably full
if there are only a handful, and we think it's one of the best
session rooms around. All it needs now is a few beer stains on
the floor and lots of good music.
Our regular bunch of Wednesday nighters still meet in the session
room on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month as usual,
playing mostly Irish traditional music, and you're welcome to
come along to play, sing or listen.
Apart from that, the session room is available to all musicians
and singers looking for a place to gather and do their thing,
every night of the week except Mondays. There's no charge for
using the room, and you don't need to book it. Just turn up,
refresh yourself at the lounge bar, pop into the session room and
play.
If things go well, we could end up with a regular club night, but
we would need a few extra hands to man the pumps.
Happy music making to you all!
