May is the month of Mary

Message from Fr Eamon for this Marian Month

My dear Parishioners,

As we begin this Month of May, let us open our hearts to Mary the Mother of Jesus and offer this month of May, with her and for her, asking for the abundance of her grace upon us and indeed the whole world at this time.

Let us spend time with her in prayer, let us meditate upon her life and the role she played in bringing Our Saviour the Lord Jesus into the world. Let us try and study what Mary means to us and the Church.

Over the course of this month, I will make available various materials to use, both for prayer and study.

There will be daily reflections focusing upon Mary and particular aspects of our faith in her. These reflections wil be taken from the writings of St. Josemaria Escriva’s ‘In Christ Passing By’  (CPB)and ‘Friends of God’ (FG).

I will also make available each week in instalments, to encourage the prayer of the Rosary in our parishes, ‘Rosarium Virginis Mariae’  by the great St Pope John Paul II. This Apostolic Letter from 2002 is a meditation and explanation on the Rosary and gives us encouragement to take up this prayer as part of our daily lives.

Our Holy Father Pope Francis has actually written a letter to the Faithful encouraging them to pray the Rosary at this time and to make May a special month in which we turn to Our Lady asking for her intercession and protection. A copy of his letter is available here.

Let us do all we can in our parishes to show our love and honour for Mary, the Mother of God and our Mother also. From wherever we may be, whether we are at home, or please God, back in Church, let us all truly make this a holy month with Mary the Mother of God.

Fr Eamonn
